Life at Bangrak Bazaar in Bangkok
Do you know the best part of backpacking? To be free…You don’t have to follow any strict plans that requires you to be at a specific place at a specific hour or you don’t have to fill in only 2 hours that is given to you to do anything you want as long as you come back at a specific hour, again…Here, you decide what to do…You go and explore streets, a tuk tuk or a local person gets your attention and you start walking faster to capture the moment, actually you listen to yourself, you let your heart to guide you and you slow down after a while and when you look around, you’ll see unique things, places, people that are not written in the books…Bangrak Bazaar is one of the best examples of this situation…I found myself in teh middle of the street fashion, street food and local people…This place is unique because there only a few foreigners…I found myself standing under the sign of Bangrak Bazaar…Ladies and gentlemen get ready to explore the unique things Bangrak Bazaar offers, after you finished reading the article you’ll feel like you were there…
Little notes on what you are about to see in this article:
- Fashion trends at Bangrak Bazaar
- Beauty perception of local ladies
- A video interview on how “Roti”, a famous Indian desert, is made at the stall which belongs to a mother and daughter
- Various street food
- People seen along the way and at Bangrak Bazaar
Walking towards Bangrak Bazaar without being aware of it…
Shuttles waiting in the line…Humid and hot weather makes you feel like you need to take a nap wherever you can find like these guys…Sleep tight guys and don’t worry about my camera…
These tuk tuks are so cute! They look like a toy, haha
Here, you can see the red one…
When you get off at Saphan Taksin Sky metro, instead of going left towards the pier, go right and these vendors will be welcoming you…
I went to a cafe to have a rest and get something cold…Here is the most delicious fruit juice ever…An amazing watermelon juice..
Bangrak Bazaar
Welcome to Bangrak Bazaar…Vendors are getting ready to sale their stuff.
Let’s see what’s happening at Bangrak Bazaar…In Istanbul, Turkey there are some bazaars like Ulus and Beşiktaş and some vendors are hilarious men put on bras that they are selling and they jump on from one stall to another like a rambo with long socks, more over they are really talented about singing too…I wonder if there are any here, haha
Here you can see the one-piece outfits…This is not a normal bazaar, all the pieces are displayed as if they are like a store…
An interesting t-shirt…Hope the person who buys it also knows what the saying on the t-shirt means.
One of the vendors at Bangrak Bazaar…
The sub-tropical climate in Thailand obviously affects the fashion trends…The second one in the picture below is a no…The fabric will eat you alive in this hot weather…
Anything you like?
What about these? I am still not into these styles…The common thing about them is how short they are…
The Thai women in white..
Fashion icon of Bangrak Bazaar…
It’s great that they are displayed in a nice way…
Chinese traditional outfits for kids…
There are some specific trends about the perception of beauty in the Asian countries…One of them is to have long and thick eye lashes…
You may think “who doesn’t want it?” but what I mean is the crazy ones that don’t look natural…The process of having longer and thick eye lashes requires you to sit in front of this lady with eyes closed and yeah, you need to trust this lady caus she is going to work on you for hours and then you need to hold the ventilator close to your face for a while too…Are you that patient? I am not…
What do you think they are? Bottle caps? Tyres of toy cars? Nope, they are for contact lenses…
It’s not finished with the eye lashes…Contact lenses are really popular in Bangkok, especially the ones that make the iris look bigger…The thing is when I was on my way back to the hostel, I run into a girl with orange eyes…Her whole eyes were orange…I was scared to death…As long as it is not scary, we support the beauty efforts…
The cosmetic stuff in Bangrak Bazaar…If you are not going to buy any of these products for sure , do not open their covers or you’ll end up buying them…
A Gucci ring…
Products in Thai Flag’s color are quite popular, especially when the protests hit a new peak in Bangkok…
Street food at Bangrak Bazaar
It looks like a famous Turkish desert called “İzmir lokması” but double of triple of it…
What kind of meets are there here? Chicken, pork, fish and RAT!!!!( I am not quite sure whether he is kidding or not, I am speechless)…
Good luck to you too…In Asian countries, this sign means “good luck” instead of peace…
Let’s keep walkign to see what kind of street food there are at Bangrak Bazaar…

Tones of red pepper, a lot of different spices, a crazy mixture of everything she has on teh counter and result is: it stinks…I can2t stay here to watch the end of it…
I am hungry but I am not gonna go for these dishes…
I am gonna go and get something sweet, again…Roti, a traditional Indian desert…It’s kind of a pastry, banana within, sugar and cream on top of it…The stall that this mother and her daughter own is the only place to have a delicious Roti at Bangrak Bazaar…
Before tasting Roti, I am watchign how this lady makes it and I record the conversation we had with these two Thai guys about Roti…Thank for teh lovely chat!
Let2s take a look at the video I mentioned above…There will be a surprise in the coming articles about this…
My second favourite stall is this sliced egzotic fruits …
The green grocer at Bangrak Bazaar in Bangkok…
Tones of food with tones of spice…If you are in a hurry, you can take away your dish with these plastic bags as if you’re buying a fish for your aquarium.
Spinach, cauliflower and many other interesting food…
Which one would you like?
I am not even close to decide which one to get…
A Thai man selling chains…
I am in the muslim kitchen…
Well, we said halal food but what about these flies?
After having seen the flies, these look definitely better, but still better to find a preper dish…
OMG! Tones of peppers…I am gone!
Wanna play a luck game?
Finally I found a place that can cook a dish without adding tones of spice…Sea food at muslim kitchen..These ladies in pink literally made a special dish for me!
These ladies in pink were sitting and chatting with me while I was eating the delicious food they cooked.
Ups, we have an unexpected ingredient in the plate…When you have a closer look at your street food, you’ll see the extra ingredients that don’t look good at all…So, don’t focus on your plate…I accepted this as a protein source and kept eating as I was starving…
PEOPLE WATCHING AT BANGRAK BAZAAR
I love to see people in tuk tuks…
Little girls in their traditional Chinese outfits…
When it’s hot, this is the reality…It’s the same in the summer in China and let’s remember the belly windows too…It’s interesting that he is hot enough to take off his t-shirt but not the socks…
The girl is drinking the milk while her father is riding teh scooter…This is really sweet!
3 generations are seen shopping at Bangrak Bazaar in Bangkok…
Look who is carrying the purse…This is not only typical for China but also for Bangkok…I kind of remember that I used to see men carrying their significant others’ purses in Istanbul, Turkey too, but not any more…
Tuk tuk drivers waiting for their customers..
Finding Bangrak Bazaar was all by chance…When you get off Saphan Taksin station of Sky Metro, turn right and take the first left and then the first left…This sweet bazaar offers you unique things about Bangkok’s daily life…I am leaving Bangrak Bazaar with zero shopping ( except food) but maximum joy and going back to my hostel to relax and meet up with Tararat and Piyush for dinner. If you haven’t seen our previous article about Taling Chan Floating Market, check it out. If you read it, then see you in the next article!
