Siam protest area in Bangkok
When you’re travelling to a country, it is important to learn as much as you can about the current situation of that country in terms of the weather, politics, agenda of the country etc. During the time I visited Thailand, the protests against the government hit a new peak. Thai-anti government protestors started Bangkok “shutdown” protests by blocking major intersections in the city to force prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra to resign.
I was on my way to meet up Tararat and Piyush to have dinner and visit the protest area in Siam.
Taking the Sky Metro…
People in the metro…
Good to see that people were literally waiting in the lines instead of following the trend of pushing each other…
Here you can see the t-shirt and the gloves related with the anti-government protests…
I liked Piyush’s t-shirt a lot haha…
The protest area looked like a big open bazaar…
Even cafes supported the protests by cooking these delicious cakes with Thai flag’s color…
Amazing dinner at Ban Kuhn Mae. It’s a Thai cuisine restaurant and a great place to taste amazing Thai food with tones of spices…You can enjoy dinner listening to traditional Thai music performed at the restaurant.
Here are the delicious deserts with my favourite drink…
This picture was taken before I suffered from the peppers in the salad eventhough we told them “without pepper”……After I got the peppers, dinner was over for me…
After dinner, it was time to check out Mango Tango Cafe ,which is famous for its Sticky Rice Mango…
“Sticky Rice Mango” is really famous in Thailand…Before I got my real mango, I was trying to eat the fake mangos to forget about what happened with the peppers at dinner…
The sweetest mango you can ever see…
The notice at the cafe…
Finally tasting Sticky Rice Mango…It tasted nice but not as good as Roti…
People in front of the cafe…
That’s interesting to see a lot of zebras on the street…
The house of spirits…
A little bit of window shopping…
I love these cameras…One day I’ll get one too!

We were getting close to the protest area…Trying to cover ourselves with these sun glasses but obviously it wasn’t a good method, haha…
Official t-shirts and accessorizes of the protests…
Fund raising…
We were literally in Siam protest zone…The police officer was checking my bag…
That was sweet…
Trade will never stop…
T-shirts and accessorizes…
The fund raising box, but this time it was for the protests…
I realized that there weren’t many foreigners around…
Have a look at the two paragraphs from the book called “The Power of Habit”:
“First, a small crowd would gather in a plaza. Within a few hours, they would begin to chant angry slogans. Spectators would show up. Food vendors would arrive. Time would pass. The chanting would get louder. More time would pass. The spectators would remain in a relatively small space, except around dusk when they got hungry. They’d buy some food, then return to their original spot. Within 15 minutes, there would be a full-scale riot.”
“A few weeks later, a small crowd gathered near a plaza. As the afternoon wore on, they began chanting angry slogans. Spectators showed up. Time passed. The chanting got louder. More time passed. Dusk fell. But this time, there were no food vendors to feed the crowd. Some went home to eat. Some went to restaurants. By 8PM, nearly everyone was gone. The riot never happened.”
As you can see, something as simple as getting rid of the food vendors would end the riots. This concept was proved by many historical experiments made in Iraq.
Various street food at the protest area…
Shalwars…
Anonymous…
People helping the protestors by giving away free food…
Free food for protestors…
Pomegranate juice
Classical music can calm the nerves…
Here was the crowd in the protest area…
Tararat told me that we had to leave as the leader of the anti-government protest was coming to Siam, there could be some shootings and it could be extremely dangerous…Have you checked out the previous article about Life at Bangrak Bazaar? If yes, then see you in the next article…
