The first day in Bangkok

After I took a nap for an hour or so in my room, I woke up feeling ready to start exploring the city…That was weird that I didn’t even wanna rest at all…I think Bangkok was getting under my skin…That was a good sign as I needed to take tones of pictures…Hope you don’t see me turning into a zombie at the end of the journey, haha… Alright, let’s get ready and meet up with my friends: Tararat who is a lovely Thai girl and Piyush who is a very kind man from India. Both of them has a great sense of humor which made my trip in Bangkok so much fun.

And finally we’re out in the Bangkok streets!!!

We took the SKY Train which is the spine of Bangkok Transportation. From the screen, you can select which station to go and it tells you how much it costs. It’s really that easy. The security guys and ladies were really helpful. One thing I noticed was how motivated they were. They weren’t just standing there like scracrows, they actually had responsibilities that’s why most of them were looking confident and satisfied by what they do. You know the feeling of being useful is one of the key factors that make you feel alive.

Who was hungry? Me!!! Here were two different chick pea dishes. I think the one at the bottom should be more spicy than the other one. I just took a photo of it, not ready to try the street food yet.

Wat Mahabut Temple, A famous story of a Thai Ghost

Wat Mahabut which is located in Phra Khanong in eastern Bangkok is one of the 887 temples in Bangkok. So, what is Wat Mahabut Temple famous for? Neither for its historical legacy nor its ancient architecture…It is famous for a female ghost called Mae Nak…Because of this ghost, this temple is also called Wat Mae Nak Phra Khanong.

According to the legend, Mae Nak was married a handsome guy called Mak. Because of the war in those times, Mak was conscripted for military service. When he was at war, Mae Nak and her unborn child died when she was giving a birth. Their bodies were buried by the neighbors. When Mak came back home from war, he found his wife and baby boy waiting for him. He had no idea what happened till his neighbors told him.

Mak run away and his wife tried to catch him. Mak was hiding in Wat Mahabut Temple but after a while she found him there too. There are a lot of versions of this legend but the most common one is Mae Nak was exorcised to return to the other world. In summary, what happened was the romance turned into a horror story.

Spirits, ghosts…These stories make me freak out . It’s like the same with “I like watching horror movies but I am also scared to death while doing that”…An interesting contrast.

Let me give you a bigger perspective…What about now? Yeah, here it is. A photo of Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand. Most of the places in Thailand have his photo on their walls. Local people love their king and his photo is one of the important things in their houses. I saw a picture of him holding his camera. This was the one I like the most.

“Ohh let’s catch the monks!” and we started to walk really fast to catch them…

And here you go…Tararat, my friend, helped me to talk with them but they were also able to speak English at some point. The monk at the back was the master, he graduated from his PHD program and the monk in the front was his student… I asked them how they decided to become a monk…The master said he wanted to be a monk with his own will and his student said his mother thought that it would have been a good thing and since the age of 14 he was being educated to be a monk…
